At the first we went for spending the night to Tartu. The town was just in the rebuilding,
this means many renovatings and to the opposite of Lithuania and Latvia a lot of traffic. Everything works
here a lot of industrialized. The Hotel
Rehe, a little bit beyond in the direction of airport, was the absolut bringer. When I
booked the room by telephone the lady said immediately incl. sauna. I said okay and thought,
many hotels have got, and asked for shower, WC and breakfast. The lady said, Yes of course
and incl. sauna. Well I imagined and booked. When we arrived, I knew what she meant. Sauna,
on every room!! Our room measured from the door up to the window good 12 meters. In between,
bath with sauna, 3 seater sofa, bed, bedside table, bed, bedside table. Gigantic. The sauna
has an electric stove and offers place for 3-4 persons. For it the breakfast was not so great.
Further we went more than two manors with mansions Palmse and Sagadi (to the north of Rakvere),
with excellent currants, to the coast and further to
Tallinn. In Tallinn we stay in the Hotel
Central something beyond the old part of the town.
Steam engine ice breaker
Here was our real purpose, the UNICA, the world film festivals of the amateurs. However, this
went 1 whole week, but we visited only 2 days, the rest was otherwise planed. Town inspection,
harbour inspection, with a guidance to very interesting steam ice breaker,
One Day Trip to Helsinki, the
Russian-orthodox Alexander Nevski Cathedrale, from where you got a wonderful look over the
town. To food you can go in the Maharaja (Indian), Klafira (Russian), Esti Maja (Estonian),
avoid the Olde Hanse. On the weekend is the town overrun with Finns for whom Tallinn is very
cheap, especially the alcohol, must not say any more in addition.
Steam Engine Ice Breaker
Then it went to the west, and with the autoferry of Virtsu on the island
Saaremaa. On Saaremaa
our first purpose
Valjala is a church, an old church from the year 1227. You cannot say renovated, there
stand, actually, only the walls and the roof is on it, but you can adventurous wooden
narrow staircases with missing or uncompleted steps in the roof framework of the church and
from there in the tower. Nothing for night blind people, there floor-morose and the German
accident association should also see that not. Then on the way back the contents of a
whole group met me, then this was even more adventurous. Then we went to
Kaali.
Pay attention to the manner of writing, any specialist has the magnificent idea two places
on one island immediately to call, Kali and Kaali, and only 10 kms each other distant. We had
got lost retime. However, the search was rewarded, a total of 9 craters, biggest ca. 30 meters
of diameter and 10 to 12 meters deep with embankments outside around and a small sea in the
middle.
In the evening then we went Kuressaare
to the castle. gigantic, with water ditch on you can drive with boats, inside a museum,
connecting passages good as labyrinth between the single rooms and floors, great view of the
merlons in the roof. Our Hotel Mannikabi
is located approx. 11 kms to the west of Kuressaare and lies in a pine wood very quietly on
the Baltic Sea. A day rest is announced, unfortunately the weather is too bad, but to take a
bath probably it will be not warm enough with the sun in August, brrr. But for tennis it
was warm enough. The others go up to south point to the lighthouse, a grit runway it must have
been, as well as the car looks. The next day it goes with the ferry back on the mainland and
in the direction of south to Riga. Occasionally we do just stop in
Parnu to a small bathing resort with nice
old part of the town, FKK beach only for women (unfortunately, no report possibly) and
beach volleyball tournament. Interesting hotel tip, the
Youth style hotel Ammende villa, there
trusts one to itself already nothing at all to give a hand or subjoin themselves and then in
it live, from approx. 300 DM in the junior Suite to 600 DM in the lux suite. But look is
already great. Then we went for the last time, quite easily about the border, we got routine,
to Riga/Latvia.
